The dual view of 'Bergerie du Haut'
For this project located in a very privileged location with a view of both the sea and the mountains, I designed a garden separated into two very distinct spaces. The first, facing the sea and spatially very constrained, was guided by a minimalist aesthetic inspired by Belgian urban gardens. Its north orientation led me to suggest to the architect hired for the major renovation of the house to expand the existing terrace, as it is increasingly true that coolness is more and more sought after on the Basque Coast in summer nowadays.
For the second, facing south and having much more space, I wanted to amplify the Italian spirit that was already induced by the succession of terraces and by the existing cypresses and palm trees by adding very sun-loving species and citrus trees. Carefully designed lighting was to allow this very exposed garden to be enjoyed during the long summer evenings.
