Creating a shade garden and orchard in the Basque Country

The client asked me to work on various areas of this beautiful property in the inland Basque Country. In addition to creating and adjusting screens to provide protection from the few neighbors and some ornamental plantings, he wanted me to transform a vacant and rather polluted plot into an orchard and a 30-space parking area to receive his guests.

After having the ground cleaned and leveled to improve the plot's drainage, I relied on the expertise of the Regional Plant Conservatory of Aquitaine to select suitable fruit species and carry out training pruning/phytosanitary controls. Since the orchard was intended to be grazed by sheep, we selected a fence that was both rustic and elegant to contain them.

Finally, I proposed creating a new garden with plant species adapted to shade, in a plot that had been neglected until then despite its proximity to the dwellings and the presence of some very beautiful oak trees.
